After making my first trip pulling the toad, I am convinced that more
brakes is needed around heavy traffic. One option of course is disc
brakes all the way around the MH. However, 32 states now require
supplemental brakes on toad (although not enforced exc Canada). Here
is my understanding of the systems I have found so far:

a. US Gear - A motion sensing device provides variable ratio brake
control to an electric solenoid arrangement mounted under the seat and
connected to the brake pedal. Uses a vacuum pump on the toad to create
power brakes. Price about $800 at Camping World.

b. Tow-V-Aire - Brake light used to provide yes/no signal to air piston
attached to floor in toad that operates the toad brake pedal (without
toad power assist). Air pressure derived from an air tank or spare
tire in toad. Price $745.

c. Bart - Uses hydraulic control from the MH with the toad hydraulic
brake lines. Price $495.

All have breakaway features. Are there others? Anyone with experience
or recommendation on toad braking system?

If you want one that mounts the hardware between the brake booster and
master cylinder, which eliminates anything sitting on the toad floor pan,
look at the brake system M & G Engineering has. Find their ad in your FMCA
magazine. Look inside the back cover for them in the listing of
advertisers.

I know one very satisfied GMC owner using the M & G system.

Try looking at a Brake Buddy. This is the one I'd probably buy if I decide
that I need one. Just sits in front of the driver's seat on the floor and a
shaft attaches to the brake pedal. Plugs into the Cig. lighter for power.
Easily moved from vehicle to vehicle. Works by having a pendulum that
swings to the front when the motorhome brakes are put on and this operates
an air piston to apply brakes on toad.
