Tire truing and equal

Hello Netters,

Could someone please refresh my memory ? I remember some postings
about a truck tire company around Atlanta or Gainsville GA who could do
a good job of truing Gmc tires. I would like to know who, and I hope He
can install the EQUAL tire balancing compound since I heard several
glowing reports of it on GMC- NET. Can someone speak up on this and also
if anyone has had a bad experience with the EQUAL please let me hear
from you. Thanks for your help.

I have used Equal for the last two months.
I think it works great. I have the original 16.5
inch wheels and bias ply E rated tires.

It drove me crazy trying to get hub caps to stay on
but when we added Equal we removed all wheel weights
and the hub caps can go on the way they are supposed to.

One word of caution always check tire pressure with the
valves on the top of the wheel and add a small amount of air
before checking pressure to blow out the Equal from the valve stem.

This prevents the Equal from getting in the valve and causing a leak.

The real trick on keeping the original hubcaps with the steel radial rim
on was to make sure that the balance weights were put only on the back
side of the rim. The PO had been balancing the tires that way for years
without problems. I ask my tire guy if that was truly possible and he
said he can do it. I now have Alcoa's so that's a moot point for me.

Hugh,
I had my tires trued a truck tire dealer in Gainsville a few years back. I
believe the companies name was Kessler Tire. Check the WWW for a listing.
The balance was excellent after they got finished. They spun the tires,
wheels and all while mounted on the coach. However, be careful. I'm told
that damage can be done to the final drive if the engine is used to spin the
front wheels.
