How much for the balancing rings and do they really work?

While at the tire dealer they were putting 10 wheels on a big truck.
The driver of the truck opened a grocery bag and handed them 50 golf
balls. He said to put 5 balls inside each tire. He claimed that they
perfectly balance the truck tires and told them not to balance the
wheels.

An interesting idea! But I surely wouldn't want to be anywhere near a
vehicle like that when a tire blows!
