Everyone is getting worried about nothing! At the expense of being labeled
persistent, argumentative, and a know it all, I have to say this one more
time because you guys are putting much to much emphasis on CV joints failing
on the road. When CV joints fail they always are pre-disposed to click on
turns. When this happens it is for one reason only. The balls and races were
not properly lubricated and they are warning you to do something about
it.Not once in a while but always always always will you hear clicks from
the balls interfering with the races before they fail. I have never heard
of one failing any other way.If someone else has than it is time to step up
to the bar and tell your story. Other wise kill this damn myth!
Heinz your CV joints are fine if you can drive in a tight circle in both
directions and hear no clicking!!!!!

FOR THE MYTH BUSTERS: HAS ANYONE ON THE NET EVER LOST A CV JOINT ANY OTHER
WAY. FURTHER HAS ANYONE EVER LOST A CV JOINT WHERE THEY COULD NOT GET HOME?

I have a 1991 Mercury sable station wagon now, both CV joints are bad, no
not bad, destroyed and the worse I have ever heard. Been that way for over
3 months. I am embarrased to go anywhere where I have to turn the wheels
sharply to get out. I always drive straight in and they never make a sound.
It sounds like I have a mexican mirimba band in the front, the worst
clicking you ever heard. Am I worried, not really. I am going to order new
half shafts tomorrow ($79/each). I have just been to busy to replace them.

Now with this said they will both explode tomorrow and if so, they gave me
plenty of warning. STupid me in that case.

>Heinz I hope your problem turns out to be the same as one of our club
>members had at the Gettysburg rally. He, and all the assembled GMC owners
>came to the conclusion he had a bad front bearing. So From about 4 PM until
>late bedtime, everyone pitched in and helped him remove and replace the
>bearing hub assemble. No problem there. The next day the problem was found.
>It was a can of pop under the passenger seat rolling around making strange
>noises! He still hangs his head when the subject is brought up.
