The original GMC Motorhome jack and chain hook

I have found that the bottle jack & jack hook combination end up at a pretty spooky angle before a middle tire will get high enough to change. Try it at home on pavement before you need it, and see if you like it. I carry the OEM setup. The jack was red as supplied by GMC.
Does everyone know about using a strong metal bar inserted in the bogie mount under the bogie arm. It helps lift the bogie arms without needing to lift the coach really high.
A piece of an old truck left spring works well.

It’s been Forty-plus years since I took Statics in engineering school. But if you do a free body analysis, doesn’t that bumper act as a reaction point when the jack is attached to the cross-member? It seems to me that the bumper would experience the similar magnitude forces (well if you neglect friction) as if connected directly to it.

In any case I don’t use the original jack that came with my coach.

Jacking bar is critical to changing tire safely with bottle jack. Just need to let air out of bags once the coach is being supported by the bottle jack, before the weight comes off the tires. And yes paint it blaze orange to help remember to remove before driving away.
