This may be slightly off topic but I'm sure that it is a topic like the
Bermuda Triangle. Nobody can never not be intrigued by it.
First the history: I grew up with Land Rovers; My brother and I owned an
XK120 when I was a teenager (we gave it away after the first/reverse slider
went out for the third time -- oh, foolish us); I traveled many miles in a
Mini Minor. In other words, I know the perversity of English auto design.
But despite this, I cannot figure out how Lucas could manage to make their
wiring that bad (and the English automakers could continue to use it). I
rented an MGB once in England. And of course, had nothing but grief with
the wiring and had to give up after a week spend in various garages around
the green isle. So tell me, what did they do wrong for so many years? There
must be some consistent technical blunder (and believe me, I understand the
English penchant for never improving something that is never quite right)
that they made that explains this phenomenon.
