I'm Joe Karls, I live in Racine Wisconsin. Retired Research Scientist, late of the US Army. I've been building/working on car's since I was about 8 or 9 when my neighbor dragged a 34 ford back from North Dakota. I helped him strip it down the bare frame and slowly put everything back together, with some extra's like quad deuce's (the linkages to marry 4 2 barrel carb's is quite something) headers ect,, Every step along the way he told me what he was doing, why, how it worked and let me actual do a lot of it. I have to tell you; I'm in possession of multiple college degrees and all of them combined don't touch the knowledge I learned doing this with Gene Kybers. Exceptionally patient man who ended up making brigadier General in the Wisconsin National Guard. The 34 ford turned Hot Rod cover quality. He was a low key guy though and didn't take it to shows or try to actually get in a magazine. Prior to going to college I was an Army crew chief on the OV-1 Mohawk. It's no longer in the Army's inventory. They sold the lot to Argentina. Anyway between rebuilding the 34 and becoming an airplane mechanic I've been exceptionally fortunate to know how to hold a wrench I've known about the GMC for many years and always had an eye to grab one when I retired and fix it up. Sorry to the purists, but my first experience was retro-modding the 34 ford so my build isn't going to be stock. I plan to 4 bag, EFI, actually prity much everything. Hope I didn't bore you guys buy there it is - I've found a good group of guys in this site so far. It seems like most of the other sites have a number of ornery ol' coot's that yell at you on every question/post. Cheers and thanks for setting this up.

Welcome Joe! I agree, Mike's initiative in setting up the new forum has been great. I try to remember that someday I'll be an ornery old coot too, and when I am, I hope I'll occasionally appreciate the newfangled ways, and that the whippersnappers will pay need from time to time ;-)

Hey Joe, Good to meet you. It’s a blessing to have been mentored by a great person. Sounds like it had a very positive impact on your life. I’m new to GMC ownership as well. Thank you for your service and Go Pack!
