Subject: Synthetics
Another dumb question that has been on my mind since the beginning of this
thread on engine oils. But first some of my deductions,
1. Synthetics leave a film of lubricant on cylinder walls after combustion
would burn off this film of dino stuff.
2. Syn should have longer life(?)
3. Viscosity is the same with either oils?
4. Syn does not have the burn off characteristics of new dino oil.
In view of these factors, I just happened to price a change for Mobil 1
while getting my wife's auto oil changed. I can get 3 dino oil changes for
the price of 1-Mobil 1 oil change, therefore, if the Mobil 1 doesn't last 3
times longer I could change oil and filter with dino oil every 1000 miles
and only be out the time it takes to do it at the same price.
Would the syn oil last 4 times longer if the filter is replaced each 3000
miles and a new quart added? This would give the syn oil change + 3
additional quarts(almost equal to another dino change) roughly equal value
in $'s. Will it last 12,000 miles and still provide benefits over dino oil?
Inquiring mind wants to know. Am still thinking about the conversion in my
other vehicles. My concern is hot, really hot weather results, as I will
only be on the north slope when hell freezes over and it won't make any
difference where one is.{:>)
