I put one of those padded letherette thingys on from O'riley's. Wasn't perfect, but made it much more comfortable and modern feeling. I painted the
rest of the wheel to match. At the end of the day, it still is a fugly wheel.

I have something similar to that. It makes a big difference.

The stitches "Sorta" lined up with the spokes, so it looked decent.

You might try to apply one of the leather steering wheel covers that lace on (Wheelskins and others) the steering wheels. It takes a while to la them
on, but the final feel is great.

Also, other GM wheels fit the steering stalk, so you can put on a smaller, more modern wheel if you'd like a change.
