Have any netters replaced their OEM steering wheel with one from a late
80's or early 90's GMC Safari mini van? Seems like I remember hearing
that it would an easy switch ??

Dick:

The Astro/Safari steering wheels work. I have a leather wrapped one on my coach.

Jim Bounds can tell you the applicable year's.

Yep! Phil Swanson and I have both replaced ours with GMC/Chevy mini-van
ones. It is a direct bolt on. Just put a spade lug connector on the
horn wire so you can connect it to the under side of the mini van
steering wheel and you're in business. Much smaller and it's easier to
see the dash gauges at a glance vice looking over the OEM wheel.

Just be careful, if you have to disconnect the horn wire from the steering column underneath the steering wheel, it's a push and turn type connector.(Does NOT pull straight up).
(Guess what I did..)

Thank you Paul B, Steve F, and CBW for your replies. Gonna start lookin
in the local salvage yards. Hope to find one with the GMC logo.
