The Statpower 40 is now working. I'm almost embarrased to report that the
problem was with a cold solder joint where the #4 wires connect to the
charger's output. My non-mechanic helper had used crimp-on ring connectors,
and at my insistance, had soldered them to insure a good connection. Little
did I realize that he was careless and didn't flow solder into the
connection, but just left a glob at the ends of the wires. Of course the
connection came loose and the batteries subsequently went dead.
It's hell when you know how but can't do the work yourself. Guess I'll have
to pay the higher price for future work of any technical nature.
