Reconsider throwing away all those 'D' rated tires that are still in good
shape. That's not to say that 'E' is not the way to go but I just thought
I'd pass on that I've been running D's for about 200 out of my 235k with
only one failure attributable to the tire and that one may have actually
been the fault a valvestem. It ultimately destroyed the tire and some
fibreglass. (The other 35k were D too, but previous owner).
However... the tires were in motion quite regularily and always wore out
before sidewall checking, etc could take place. I always replaced at or
slightly before wear bar was reached on the tread
I now have E's on the front and will be going to E's on the back as my
current set of D's wears out.
Just a point of interest, I have been going through 2 front sets for each
rear sets, which is of course understandable, i.e. more slippage, etc.
Another 2 cents worth.. My normal travel speed is 55-65. I rarely get over
that as I enjoy the travel part and find that at those speeds I can enjoy
the surroundings some.
Even the draps of the desert and the expanses of NM and Texas are enjoyable,
especially in a GMC.
Again... this is not to knock anything/anybody but as we have a lot of new
GMC'ers on the list I thought I'd share my own to perhaps avert undue panic.
However... please note that I too am going in the direction of E's, but only
as regular replacment when next due.
