Among other things, Irene and I are replacing the carpet and underlayment
in the Palm Beach. I chose Soundown material (www.soundown.com) as the
underlayment. For the engine hatch area I went with 2lb per sq ft vinyl
acoustic mass (premium underlayment). The drop in noise level is pretty
remarkable. I don't have measured data yet, but with most of the engine
deck area covered the sound level doesn't seem to increase much as I open
the throttle to around 3000 RPM. Muffler noise now appears to be the major
static sound source. I still have to complete the underlayment. I will post
results as soon as I am able.
