'Shaking' on the passenger side

Lately I have noticed a 'Shaking' while driving in the 60 - 70 mph range.
The lamp on the dinette table, a small wind chime hanging on the door, both
shake too much. I had the wife examine the wheels/tires on both sides while
driving on the interstate at about 65 mph, she could see nothing obviously
wrong.

Could this shaking be caused by a misalignment or is it most likely a wheel
out of balance?

Thanks,

tw

Hi Tom, Beneathe each GMC ther is a Metal like Rod that connects the frame to
the body on each side. They are usually a lighter color than the black frame.
I think they have a shape like a Y without the tail. If you look these or this
rod may have come loose. I am experiencing similar vibration only in a turn
and at a slower speed and have not put my finger on it but was told to look at
these rods or what ever they might be called. When I turn right I get a loud
bump too. This is what started the investigation. I have been told everything
from air cleaner hitting the floor to manifolds etc. But nothing check out.
other than irration on my part. If you find out let me know. .

Vibrations can act strange. On mine I starting hearing a fairly loud hum
whenever I turned left. It turned out to be vibration from the blower motor
getting much louder when turning to the left. Apparently something moves
just enough to allow a resonance at just the right frequency.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss of MiniPerl. I know she was a real

Have an experienced tire man check each tire for a bulge on the inside.
Running over something in the road sometime back can damage the tire and
that damage shows up later. It could also be a seperation or even some
of the tread could be missing. If that's the case, check your tire
warranty (if any). These type of things make you wish you had purchased
"road hazzard" insurance when you purchased the tire.

That's the initial warning of ply separation on my 5 year old, load range D
Goodyears. It'll get worse till you can finally see a knot come up on one
of the tires right before it blows out.

Touch em, rub em, eyeball em.......find that knot!

Tom,

>>I had the wife examine the wheels/tires on

>>at about 65 mph

I sure am glad MY wife can't run that fast!! :)

Seriously though-

I had a similar "vibration". At 59-63mph my mini-blinds
would rattle on the big passenger side window. Then at
65-70mph the rear mini-blind would rattle with a sound
identicle to engine knock - very unnerving. My alignment was fine and
balancing only helped a little.

Took my coach to J Bounds - he trued all six wheels -
thus removing a double handful of weights.

100% Cure - and when I find a smooth road - the coach
literally rides like it's on glass - I have had the
coach up to 80 with no vibration.

It's the second best improvement I have made to the coach,
the best?? My Macerator!

Tom,
When all else has been eliminated, check your inner CV joints. I chased
such a vibration for almost two years before I took it to Dale Vierus. He
found it on the first try.
Good luck,

If the tires check out OK you might want to try having the weights removed
and putting dry balancing compound in the tires. I fought this same kind of
problem since the day I got my 73 Sequoia. New tires didn't help, new
shocks didn't help, balancing the wheels numerous times didn't help.
Finally, as a last ditch effort, before giving up and buying aluminum
wheels, I tried Equal dry balancing compound. I was skeptical but it worked.
