My name is Tom Michalsen and the new owner of a '78 Royale 26 dry side bath. The original captain chairs offer little adjustment. I need to sit way lower and be able to recline somewhat. Also, legroom is sparse. Can anything be modified on the original chairs to accomplish this? Or am I looking at needing "new" chairs from some other vehicle? Perhaps the posts could be cut down a few inches and re-welded, but that wouldn't address any recline or back movement. I'm 6''6" and really struggling. Did not have this issue whatsoever on the '77 Kingsley I drove 43 years ago. Thanks!

I put new RV seats in mine, they bolt right in and recline, retaining the original spin around and face rearward feature which is so handy.

To get yours lower, you might have to modify the pedestal they are bolted to. If you lower it enough, you can use a seat base that includes height adjustment. I'd recommend not losing that spin around feature though, it's pretty sweet.

There's a mod where people use the middle row seat out of a Toyota sienna or Honda odyssey which have arm rests, recline and are fairly comfortable. Some of those even have a leg rest that kicks out for really laying back comfortably (while parked)

Thanks very much Todd. I believe lowering the pedestal post and base will be key. Any idea if the pedestal post is hollow? Or might it have a shaft or pipe inside it? Or is it completely solid? A fabrication shop I spoke with asked these questions.

The base is hollow, I'm sure a fab shop could make a shorter base and retain all the other dimensions.

Here's a couple photos that might help - if the Royale uses same seat bases as GM interior (Eleganza/Kingsley etc).

2nd photo shows interior of original GM seat base after I had mine powder coated - shows vertical pipe the seat swivel-post fits into, and the locking swivel release lever.

Great post - no pun intended, LOL!

I haven't dove into getting my Canyon Lands 230 road worthy again, but i did notice right away that the driver's seat is WAY to high (i'm only 6'2" btw) nor does the swivel feature function properly of either of the chairs, so your phots help give me a heads-up on what i'll be looking for.
