Duane:

Can you give me a name at Rostra that said to route the blue wire to ground.
I'd like to talk to them about it because I'm having difficulty with my
Rostra installation, using the 250-3032, stalk mounted controller.

When I installed the system, found out from Claude Broussard in the middle
of the install, that the blue wire wasn't needed. By then, I had attached
it to one side of a terminal strip, where I left it by itself, unconnected
from that point.

I've set switches 2, 7, & 9 to On. Even tried 1 On in addition, also.
Called Rostra and they suggested 1 Off, but 8 On. Tried that too without
success. My problem is that it won't engage until a dozen or so tries at
setting it (i. e. repeated pushing of the button).

On the way to Forest City and back, found that when it does decide to
engage, it grabs at a lower then the set speed. Using the accelerate
function slide switch, with repeated slides of the switch, I got it to
accelerate up to the desired speed.

Effect of repeated pushing of the decelerate button is variable. sometimes
it works and mostly it doesn't.

Last time I spoke with Rostra, they said if putting switch 8 to the On
position didn't work, which it didn't, that I should go thru the diagnostic
check for the controller. Have't done that yet.

The Rostra Technicians have stated that the Electronic Cruise Control
Installation instruction for connecting the BLUE wire to the Distributor
That is WRONG for our application & should be disconnected & connected
to chassis ground (Blue wire to ground). This will improve performance at
the top of the climb & minimize "drop out" activity on the "Flats".
This pertains to Rostra's Electronic Cruise Control P/N 250-1223.

If you haven't started to install your Rostra yet, you might want to reconsider.
I took the entire unit out of a miod eighties Buick, including the steering
column. By simply grafting the upper end of the steering column to the lower end
of the GMC steering column and installing an eighty four Chevy sppedometer into
the GMC speedometer cup, anmd a bit of wire loom making, I have what is in effect
a factory electronic cruise control. It works very well and the cost was around
seventy five dollars, plus a bit of labor. If you decide to go this way, let me
know. I have the wiring diagram for the entire unit.

Duane:

You'll find that the gray wire IS used. However, you'll also find that in
the wiring harness close to the controller, the gray wire from the VSS is
spliced into this wire. Therefore, you can cut it off (and tape, etc.) to
just after the splice.

You can see this by looking at the wiring diagram in the Rostra manual and
noting where the "optional speed sensor" (VSS connection wiring) is shown.

I can not give you a name since I have not had direct contact with Rostra's
technicians. Two other people independently got the same reply...ground the
blue wire (not connected to distributor as stated in manual). This works
better for "drop out" & at the "Top of the Climb" conditions. I know of
about 15 installations (including Claude's) that have followed the
installation book & my installation supplement w/o any problems. Yes, 2,7 &
9 is the only switches "On". Works great. Claude did contact me about the
"Gray Wire" as not being used, not the "Blue Wire". The gray wire is not
used & the "Blue Wire" needs to be grounded or connected to the
distributor's Tack terminal. All other wires attached per the installation
manual & it works great. One thing that is not obvious is if the Brake
Lites are non functional, then the Cruise Control will not function also.
