Roof Antenna

My radio is disconnected from antenna wire to ceiling and instead has short antenna
wire running toward glove box inside dash. Take out glove box for easy access.
There it has splitter box(radio shack) to two mirror mount cb antennas. works
really well, no interference and really good reception.

it's best if you can use the existing cabling. On my coach, the cable runs
up the center portion of the windshield and is embedded in some sort of
mastic in places. ON mine you can't pull the old out.

Providing that the antenna mount is the right kind for your new antenna,
just unscrew the old one and put the new one on. The splitter can then go
on the radio end of the cable in the dash.

IF you need to remove the mount to replace it, you'll need to drop the
front cap from the inside so you have access to the mounting hardware.

I'm curious ... why can't the original coax cable be left in place and
connected with an adapter behind the dash to feed both the AM/FM radio and
CB?

I think I can modify my new whip antenna to go into the old fitting up on
the roof and so avoid pulling the headliner.

in. Put some pentrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes. When you
loosen the nut the antenna goes out thru the bottom and unhooks with a short
pigtail wire. The original antenna goes down the middle post of the front
windsheild and cannot be removed. It also cannot be reused for your radio
and CB together. You will need to get a coax 90 degree connector from Radio
shack and run the coax over to the side and down the inside of the wall.
You will have to extend the coax a few feet to reach the front of the dash.
You want that adjustment box close to the CB unit. You will also find that
the antenna is long inside and will stick down thru the headliner. I made a
small cover to put over the area. I am doing a total interior restoration

be sure you keep the original antenna, they are very hard to replace. Some
of us would like the old one.
