Restrictors and water pumps

Mondello's recommends the restrictor for GMC applications. I bought my
motor from them, they installed it, I questioned them about it and they
still recommended it, when they had to rework the water pump for a leak
, they still insisted in using the restrictor on my GMC. I have been
there done that. This is what they do.

Boy!!! This is getting curiouser and curiouser. Think about it. First, he
wants us to put in a super, keen, neet-o water pump to push more water thru
the block. Then he wants us to put a restrictor in to slow it down. Strange,
don't you think???
As for the thermostat, Ambient temperature IS going to effect the
temperature of the coolant. Try to cool the engine when out in the desert
and the temperature is above 115 degrees. Same for Alaska and 20 below.
Without the thermostat the engine will never come up to operating
temperature. The only purpose of the thermostat is to maintain the same
temperature in the block no mater what the outside temperature is. If you
let the block temperature fluctuate then the oil will not lubricate
properly, The carburetor will not give you the best mileage, and the engine
will not last as long. Even the difference between a 180 and a 195
thermostat will (should) make a difference as to what weight oil you would
use. If GMC could get away with leaving the thermostat out of all those cars
and saving 3 bucks each, don't you think they would have?
