Fred,
As far as a disconnect for the generator, you could rewire a Todd switch
controller to perform that function. As the voltage drops when the
generator is cut off, the relay in the switcher would disconnect the load
to allow it to power down load free as well as preventing a low voltage
situation the to the loads.

I have found the Todd switches to be convienant and reliable.
