I'm also about ready to tear the old, original carpeting out of my 76
Palm Beach. I pulled up a little and it is stapled down without a pad.
Have any of you guys working on your carpeting figured out how to handle
the lift up door to the engine? I've seen people make the carpet on the
door larger than the door so it overlaps to the left and right. What
are you thinking about doing?

I am putting down an automotive type pad (not foam) under my low pile
commercial style carpet. Since I didn't have a pad before, I was wondering
how everyone was planning on attaching the carpet to the floor. My thoughts
were that the tackless strips usually used for wall to wall carpet wouldn't
work because of the confined spaced. I also thought that stapling thru the
carpet and pad would leave dimples. My plans currently are to nail down 1"
wide by 3/8 thick plywood strips along the outer edges and staple the pad
down inside these strips. I would then staple the carpet directly into these
strips and hopefully eliminate the dimples. Anyone do it differently?

I also have heard that some people put the metallic bubble type insulation
under the carpet over the engine area to provide additional heat insulation.
With the 1/2" fiber type padding I'm using, I'm wondering if that is necessary.

Thanks for any help or advice.
