Ramco mirrors

I have a 78, which has welded studs making the mirror
much harder to install as the studs are short.

However, I understand that Ramco now has an arm
with the correct angle for the GMC that does not require
a shim.

Do you know if the mirrors you are ordering require an
extra shim for correct angle - or are they correct for
the GMC. If a shim is not required - my bolts may come
thru far enough to put a nut on.

Let me know if you have any info regarding this. Feel
free to call me at 1-888-766-4835 (It's toll free) or
email me at mike

Thanks

GMCnetters,

I thought I had wrapped up the orders for Ramco mirrors last month. I had
several more inquiries in Myrtle Beach if the price was still good. I
called
Ramco today and was told I had been misquoted and billed $15 per pair less
than I should have been. However, they said since I had quoted $312.50 per
pair, shipped, they would honor that price this week if ordered through me.
So, the Ramco mirror I talk about is the 2102HR-GMC, which is the powered
and
heated upper mirror and manual lower convex mirror, with turn signals
attached
to the arm.

If anyone wants a set, then email me at jrwheeler7 by Thursday
evening
and I will place an order on Friday. You can order direct from Ramco for
about $385 or from Caspro for about $485. I make no money on these; I
actually lost several dollars per order for those mirrors shipped to the
West
coast. Oh well, just happy to pass on a good deal. Would appreciate the
same
from others as you run across a good deal.

Signing off now to go watch the Blue Devils get the NCAA crown.

Mike:

On your 78 coach, I assume by welded studs you mean that after you remove
the acorn nuts the studs are still mounted to the coach?? If so, you're
going to need either Ramco or someone else to modify the mirror arms to fit
your studs. I detailed what Ramco does in another e-mail message, last
month I believe.

Also, if interested, Ramco has a mirror that has the motorized bottom convex
section, which I got. Heating is an option on it also, which I didn't get.

On the Ramco mirrors I got several years ago, no shims were required.

Well not all is well with my RAMCOs. I have the stud type mirror mounting
as found on most '78s and that is a problem. Even though the Ramco
documentation noted a '78 stud mount' as what was shipped, i could not
mount them as I had expected. I removed the stainleas 5/16 cap nots that
held on the originals and went to mount the Ramcos only to find that they
had a minimal recessed hole for each stud that would not allow any tool to
be be used to tighted the cap nuts. Measurements showed that I needed a
3/4 in recess for my 5/16 socket. The recess as manufactured was 9/16.
Thought I could just enlarge the recess holes to the 3/4' and be good to
go. Not so!! The placement of the stubs in the fiberglass was not very
precise and would have the stud just enough to one side or another to keep
my socket from fitting. I was able to get 2 of the 4 tight on each mirror
at Myrtle Beach for the drive home. (Jim Bound's glass installers did like
having the mirrors off when they did the windshields!!). should I call
RAMCO direct for a fix or just enlarge the recessed holes further??

Tom,
How are you, yes the guys were impressed that you thought about them and
moved the mirrors- thanks, you are building good carma.

I have run into your problem before, and no- the gal at Ramco has no idea
on how to modify the mirrors to work. They are aware of the prob. and at
this time would only offer to take the units back.

I bezeled the holes on one set and used ocal nuts to grab the end of the
threads, I did not like the finished install and vowed to do better next
time! I now have a unit with the same situation. I think I am goung to
cut off the threads and install 1/4"x20 nut inserts and convert the mount
to use the screws provided. I will probobly move the new mount just ahead
of the old threads to get to make drilling easier. I'll let you know what
happens.
