Does anyone know any other truck that has the same rad support? I have to
repair mine do to rust out were the mounting pad goes and the rad dropped
and is now resting on the over flow outlet. I can get a hold of alot of
truck parts and thought it would be faster having one ready to put in.
While I am there I think I'll put timing chain and water pump in. Any one
have any idea of what brands to us?
thanks Bryan N.J.

Check the parts book and get a part number for the
support and call the local GMC dealer. They may be
able to tell you something about what it was used on.
Just a thought, others will have more ideas.

Bryan, Had same problem. Top section or original rad frame in very good
shape and can be reused as is. Bottom horizontal channel and about the
bottom third of support frame on both sides GONE due to rust. This was a
good thing as it allowed me to keep the original mounting holes located near
the tops of the side pieces. Cut out bad sections of sides (with metal
bandsaw I just happen to have in garage, but could be done with decent recip
saw) and plan to visit my structural erector's scrap pile for some light
channels or angles which I shall weld to restore sides to proper length and
cut and weld complete new bottom section. After checking for correct fit to
recored rad, plan to hit entire structure with several layers of hot applied
RUSTOLEUM (DEMAG paints our bridge cranes in this manner and they hold up
quite well).
Before setting rad back into new frame, will custom cut new rubber cushion
blocks and probably goop a mess of GE silicon rubber in there to get good
cushioning).
And while I have the rad off, pulled all the original alt/a-c comp/ps
pump/water pump/fan clutch, etc. and replace all belts. Will probably fab
new split section fan shroud ala Heinz W.
Last time I spent THIS much time on my back, I was... Never mind! :-)
Good luck, dude. :-)
