Now it's all coming into focus . . .

Now I know what I was looking at on that CCC
wagon in the junkyard. The large, SoCal-based
SOB manufacturer that I work for used
Chevrolet chassis during the '80s that had the H-
boost system. I had completely forgotten about
them. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Didn't
know they used them on cars, though.

Not to overcomplicate or beat it to death, but is
the HydroBoost a viable option for the GMC,
failure situations from pump belt breakage, or
other problems notwithstanding? Opinions . . . ?

Just musing here . . . maybe I'm better off
getting the Lamey-enhanced vacuum booster
and forget the esoterica . . . ?

So you know where I'm coming from, my brake
system needs rebuilding. The brake lines
appear to be original, the proportioning valve is
badly rusted, the rear drums are actually
peeling away around the edges. If I touch one of
the brake line fittings and try to loosen it, it's
going to fall to pieces. You get the picture. So I
want to gather as much info as I can before I
decide which way to go. Once I get started, I
don't want to stop. On the other hand, if I have
to do it in stages, I want it all to work together
correctly, and not have to re-do something to
accommodate a later decision. Part of the
reason I'm looking into a rear disc upgrade (of
whichever flavor) is because that whole mess
back there has to be re-done. I'd sure like to
say someday that I can stand MY GMC on its
nose.

Thanks for all the illumination.

Something you may want to think about is to use larger slave cylinders for=
=20
your drum brakes. I upgraded all four of my rears to 1 1/8" cylinders and I=
=20
am very happy with the results. I was thinking about going to disk's but=20
after the slave cylinder upgrade I decided to keep my drums for a while.=20
The cost was very low and no other modifications where required. They just=
=20
drop right in.
