Power Level II Valves leaking

My J.R. Slaten Power Level II air valves are leaking at the stem, or at least one of them is. I can actually feel air coming out of it, even though
it is a slow leak. Before I investigate the leak, I just thought I'd ask if there is a nut at the stem, with some sort of packing in it, that can be
tightened?

The rest of the air system is pretty tight, but I probably have a few other small leaks that should be easy to track down and fix. If I isolate the
air bags, the coach will stay up indefinitely, but if I leave the shut offs open, it will sag in a few days. I'm pretty sure, at this point, the air
is mostly leaking out of the valves.

Thanks Mike. That's good information. It should be a big help. I don't think I got the "service instructions" with the valves, but I'll take a
second look through my old paperwork.

Okay, I pulled the valve assembly out of the dash, took the handles off of them and was able to tighten up the 'packing nuts'. The 'nuts' need a
spanner wrench to tighten them, which I didn't have, but I was able to get a snap ring pliers in the holes and tighten them a partial turn. That took
care of that leak.

Next issue is that several of the black supply lines on the backs of the valves are leaking. These are the ones that came installed on the valves
with the quick disconnect fittings from the right valve to the left. I guess I'll wait for the pressure to bleed off and try to take them apart to
see if I can get them sealed. Any other suggestions?

Carl,

You figgered it out before I had a chance to reply. I used those Swaglok
three way valves a lot on test equipment I built during my Project Apollo
days. If tightening the gland nut doesn't solve the problem you can get a
"soft goods kit" to rebuild the valve.

As far as those push on fittings go I would suggest you disassemble the
whole setup and check the ends of the plastic tubes for scratches and the
o-rings in the fittings to see if they're nicked. Once again you can get
soft goods kits.

The chances for leaks are much less than that tangle of plastic lines
running fore and aft throughout the coach. One air line to each air bag.
That is it. Math doesn't lie here.

I'm actually quite happy with my Power Level system with the ViAir pump and the ability to pump my Quad bags all the way up to maximum raise or level
the coach from the driver's seat. I don't doubt that the wireless system is a great product, but it has it's limitations. For someone with a non
functional air system, it is the ideal fix, but I'm just battling a few small leaks here. No point in throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Jim, Not Mike here, but I'm pretty sure I did buy the valve set-up from you. No need to replace the whole thing, at this point, but I will keep your
offer in mind. Hopefully I can get the small air line leaks fixed and get on with my life.

I agree. Once I have my coach set where I want it, I just go out and close the shut-off valves at the bags in case of a leak. I need the exercise. :)

Yeah I can understand that and tend to do it myself. However I've met most all of the GMC vendors and service providers. Not one of them I've met
would consider a call to be a bother. They are all willing and happy to help and want to know if there is a problem with their product.

To finish out this thread, I talked to Jim K about the leaky fittings and he contacted JR, who sent me ALL the fittings along with an apology for the
inconvenience, and instructions on how to change them out. I will install them tonight.

I certainly appreciate the way our vendors and suppliers support their products.

Carl,
The following may be redundant, however, I figger'd I'd toss it out there
just in case.

Check the ends of the plastic tubing that goes between the fittings to make
sure it's a clean cut. Take some 400 grit paper and radius the edge a bit so
it's not sharp as it can cut the o-rings in the push in fittings. Be careful
not to sand the side of the tubing. Lubricate the ends with a bit of
Vaseline before you insert the tubes.
