Phil --

I like your idea. I did the same thing, but... I used a product called 3M
vinyl mastic tape (you can get it at Lowes, Grainger or Menards) and simply
wrapped it around the existing lug nuts about 3 times. This is a thick,
rubbery like tape. I work for the phone company, so I took the easy way out.
I uh -- borrowed some from work.

This builds up the size of the lug nuts, then you just 'thread' the plastic
trim nuts on over the mastic tape. Gives new meaning to the phrase "wrap it
up and ship it." The trim nuts are threaded on the inside.

PS -- For what it's worth, I got the chrome lug centers, which I got at
Hubcap Express in Fort Wayne, Indiana 219-471-2277. They cost $94.50 for all
6 including the attaching 'nuts'. These were brand new, and they had
hundreds of them. It was within my caveman budget. We drove all summer with
them without a problem.

It's time for new tires this year, so I'll probably do Alcoa's and convert
to 16" tires, but they look pretty stylish to me.
