I have over 43 years of Buzz Box experience in more than 5 coaches. I did
have to replace one with an updated converter/charger but I have NEVER
suffered from battery failures from one.

Maybe I'm just lucky.on the other hand, maybe you aren't.

You just leave one of those "buzz boxes" plugged in for maintenance
charging of your coach batteries, and you will soon learn the sad tale of
prematurely replacing coach and engine batteries. If you use Trojan T-105's
like I do, that little maneuver will cost you about $600.00. Been there,
done that, got the T shirt to prove it.
I will take a Progressive Dynamics or IOTA "smart charger" over the
old school "buzz box" any day of the week. But like they say, "You roll the
dice, and take your chances.$ It's your money, spend it how YOU see fit.

I have had my coach now for 10 years, and I installed new batteries and a smart charger the first year I owned it.

since then, I replaced the starting battery many years ago because I was gifted a nice AGM battery. And last year I had the golf cart batteries
finally give up, so I got a good 9 years out of those. It is usually plugged in 6 months of the year, with exceptions of 20% of weekends, and the
other 6 months in storage, they are charged up and the Neg cables removed. I believe that battery life is attributed to using a good 3 stage
charger, and a combiner.

Just recently in the past month a facebook poster had batteries boiling over because it was left plugged in to the "buzz box"

I had an old splicer trailer that I plugged in for a night. Came in to the morning to a "whistle" that was one of the scariest things I was a
foot from realizing it was the battery whistling! could not get that trailer out of the shop and unplugged fast enough!

so in my opionion and experience, you are lucky, and probably doing the right thing not plugging in and walking away for a week.

Wes from Cinnabar did a nice writeup back when they had the newsletter. Delcotron takes it up to and briefly over 14.2V to help desulf battery. The
constant mid 13s of the buzz box will cook it long term if left on. Very happy with my IOTA with external smart module. My 4D is over 10 years old
and doing fine.
