Painting the engine compartment

I’m getting pretty close to putting the sub frame and engine back in the coach. Eventually, I’m going to paint the coach, and it’s going to be a different color. I have a few more things to mock up in the engine compartment, and a few holes to drill; does anyone have any good recommendations on prep work for repainting the engine compartment a different color? Painting is a little outside of my wheelhouse. I do have a gun and a large compressor.

Right now, the firewall is Palm Beach green, but there is some kind of undercoating that was applied to the inside on the lower sections of the front face. I’ve considered just painting the inside of the compartment black since the coach will most likely be silver and black anyway, but I find that lighter colors are easier to see leaks and other things.

I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD POST

But to the point of covering the engine compartment.
I have been on here off and on, mostly because of my struggles to get my GMC running and back on the road.
When I was on there was a large commentary about engine fires.

Paint does not sound like a good idea as paint burns.
But out GMC fires are a combination of fuels, lubes and /or the wood the coach is constructed with.

I always have an eye out looking for answers to problems, and as I was looking for a portable heater, yTube came up with one. Not to go deep into this heater, the interesting point is what they were using for a wick.

It is a black welding blanket, is fireproof, will handle 1800 degrees and available from Amazon.

Here is an example of this material.

The goal would always be to have more time to evacuate the coach, next is the ability to put the fire out.
This fireproof blanket can hold back fire to evacuate the rv, how you put it out is a matter for discussion.
Where I worked, we had to play fireman when the plant had fires so I know the only way to save the "ship" is to get that fire out. This fireproof blanket will hold it back and depending on how you install it, MAY be able to save your RV.
but we found that a very hot sustained fire could eventually ignite any flamable item in time.
In this item, look at the added time you get to get out of the Rv.

just a though
