Another perspective re: "over-the-hill" reservations: Most decent parks
have similar rules. They're intended to provide the manager (usually an
employee, not the owner) with a tool to keep the "trash" out of the park,
thus maintaining the desirability we all seek when we park. The rule is
very rarely enforced when we show up in person, because they can see that
we're not the problem. I ran into this situation on a recent cross country
trip and solved it by making a "provisional" reservation, giving the
manager the option of refusing after he had seen the GMC. Once he saw it,
there was no problem. I for one would rather not stay in a park full of
wandering gypsies in old junkers. If, on the other hand, a park is so
"snooty" as to accually refuse our business, they deserve all the grief we
can deliver.
Regarding over-full crankcases, oil leaks and inaccurate dip sticks, here's
an easy fix. The next time you change the oil and filter, put in 6 quarts
of fresh oil and then run the motor for 5 minutes while you check for
leaks. Note: if your coach is equipped with an extra oil cooler, you'll
need to add the appropriate amount of extra oil. Turn it off and let it
sit for a full 10 minutes to let all the oil run back into the pan. Pull
and wipe the dip stick, and check the oil level. (Be sure to push the stick
ALL the way in.) If the oil level is not at the old "full" mark, file a new
"full" mark at the oil level. If you have to make this new mark, you should
also file a new "add" mark the same distance below the new "full" mark as
the old "add" mark was below the old "full" mark. Now you KNOW you have an
accurate dipstick.
Hope this helps somebody.
