Hi Folks
I'm hopefully soon going to bring Roxie in for a ontario safety inspection and get her on the road. In the meantime, does anyone have a good insurance provider they'd recommend?
My broker is going to look, but any leads would be appreciated. Hagerty gave me a good online quote, but I thought they didn't insure our rigs?

I have all my insurance with a local Mutual Insurance Co. I get a dividend cheque every year depending on their profit. They allow me to remove the road liability insurance while it is store for the winter.

I have my cars with Economical Mutual, but apparently they can't accept anything without enough digits in the VIN or something ridiculous like that.
Hagerty would be nice as you insure for a set value, then there's no messing around if needed, quote for Roxie was only $223 with a $25k value, but I haven't called to see if that is accurate.

So, even though Hagerty is set up to do online quotes for motorhomes, they don't insure them in Canada (motorcycles either). Just got off the phone with them
My broker says Aviva might be able to cover Roxie, but needs a propane certification as well as an Ontario safety, for somewhere north of $500/yr (he said $500-$700, no details yet)

I use Hagerty for antique cars but was told they do not do RV's, even antiques. My daily cars are with Aviva and they added my GMC. They asked for a copy of the safety, which my agent thought was weird since if it is plated it certified. Didn't ask for a propane safety, likely an oversight.

Good luck, Gary

I just went to three places to see about propane certification, none could do it and referred me to a place out of town with an iffy reputation.
On my way home I decided to stop at the insurance agent (DesJardin) who covers our cottage and ask. He thought it was a cool vehicle and gave me a price of $320 and never mentioned propane. He's going to check with his underwriters to see if that's correct, but might have found a winner.

Now I have to get it safetied, a mechanic I know said he'll do a house call as it's already sitting on blocks with the wheels off, makes it easier for him.

Getting there.

The original ASME tank has a lifetime certification unless the laws are different in Canada.

It also looks pretty good and has held pressure for at least a dozen years now....but I'm hoping that doesn't matter and I won't need a certification.
Half of the PITA is getting it somewhere to inspect it, need insurance to drive it there, but can't get insurance without the cert or safety. Hopefully that's taken care of, guess I'll see soon enough.

He just called me back, Roxie is now insured. I just have to get her safetied for road coverage, but I can drive her there if I need to. No propane issues.
Woohooo

It helps to have a mechanic who can certify the vehicles for the road which you know well. Meaning the guy trusts you not to throw him under the wheels. The fellow who did mine said he didn't like a few items, I said I would look after them and he wrote the certificate. Glad to hear you're insured. See you sometime, Bev and I camped two nights in Cathcart Park along the St Clair River this week. Lovely.
