to have a 455ci engine competely rebuilt? Can replacement engines be
purchased somewhere, or is rebuild the only way to go?

I went through three engines befor getting my original rebuilt. The
first two lasted 300 and 700 respectfully. My original was rebuilt
locally. The original 455 blocks have an "L" stamped on the back of the
block and that means the nickle content is the highest one can get.
These blocks were made for the GMC motorhome only. So if you have one
