Recently my onan stopped working - it cranks but will not start. used
green manual to trouble shoot it. I found that jumping 9 & 11 alowed me
to start and run. Upon inspection of the unit I also found the wire
going to the flywheel alt. had broken. The manual states "When the
engine starts and rpm increases, the flywheel atl. developes a voltage
which is rectified and energizes relay k2." Does that mean I have to
have the flywheel alt tied in to operate the onan. The book says that
relay k3 is defective if you can jump terminals 9 to 11 and the system
starts and to replace the board.

Duane,

Thank for the info on the flywheel. Pulled flywheel to fix muffler
bracket - bolt all the way out. Butt spliced new wires for alt and
wrapped with high temp cover. wired everything back together and unit
runs great. No oil leaks now. I may order a refurbished board as a spare
as this one is 20+ years old. I replaced plugs and wires also and have
new electronic ignition module to install soon.

I have been on travel for a week & just returned today. The Output of
the Flywheel Alternator (AC voltage) is required at the Board to
Identify
that the Onan is running & requires the starter to be disconnected, etc.

Yes it is required for proper operation.

Be sure to torque the flywheel bolt to factory spec and then recheck it
after running it for a while. Bad things happen when the flywheel breaks
and comes off. Yes, I know this first hand....
