FYI:

I just had to replace my 6KW onan muffler and the
small pipe that runs up to the manifold. Jeff
at Alex Sirums have found a replacement muffler
and sell it for $119. They had it in stock two
weeks ago. They also have the small pipe. I think they
make those, not sure. Sure beats $230.

The muffler is a little longer (about 2") but same
diameter.

Steve Harman in Ohio, 2nd generationn GMC owner, has a tube bending firm.
He already makes a very nice replacement stainless steel muffler/exhaust
system for the Onan.

I need to replace the onan muffler and checked on a replacement.
It seems the original muffler is not available anymore but Onan has a
similar
muffler. Comes as a kit 155-1962. The dealer wanted $275.77.
>From the GMCMI newsletter I found that Don Simmons was selling a
stainless
steel muffler and exhaust tube for $225.00. However after talking to
him,
he's not making them anymore even with an order of 10. He only sold 4 in
five
years and is very disappointed that the GMC community didn't support
him.
I'm going to fabricate my own stainless steel muffler. Buying the
material
just for one muffler will cost $140.00 plus $60.00 for welding, drilling

holes and bending the tube.
Buying the material in bulk, enough to make 20 mufflers will cost $87.00
per
kit.
If there is interest I will do the leg work and put it together.
The price would be around $150.00 or less if the shop charges me less
than
$60.00 per unit.
