You didn't ask for my input, but here it is anyway. I mounted my oil temp sensor
in a "T" right at the oil filter and in the oil line leading from the filter to
the oil cooler in the radiator. I also am concerned about the close proximity to
the exhaust manifold. I have not looked lately but I would guess I have a little
more then the 1.5" clearance that you report on my OEM 455 CID engine.
As I mentioned in an earlier posting my oil temperature seems to run at around
220 at 60 MPH and 250 at 70+ MPH. My water temp ranges from 190 (190 degree
thermostat) at 60 to 210-220 at 70. My fan clutch is suspect so I'm going to be
replacing it soon.
