I tried to use flattestroute.com to see what the grades are like, I have a 3.70 FD. Should I be concerned about this route? Also questioning i68 west through eastern MD and southern PA, heading to Ohio from Virginia. Comments encouraged.

Hey Sean,

We've taken I-64 once a year for the last 5 years from our home to Oak Hill, WV. It's slow going especially coming out of the gorge but we're using a 3.07. Your 3.70 will not likely have the same problems.

I-68 is a better router IMO if you're going to Ohio.

Thanks Jared! I hate return trips via the same route and looking for alternate route back from Ohio to see the eclipse. Nervous about any hill with mandatory brake checks and runaway ramps…lol.

It's not that bad really. 64 is just really slow going coming out of the gorge. But even going into the gorge, it's a loooooooong not terribly steep with wide sweeping turns on the way down. I had zero issues with my coaches making the trip. It's beautiful as well.

We made it back from Delaware, Ohio successfully witnessing Eclipse Totality. Haven’t tally’d the numbers yet but coach ran well climbed most of the hills >50 mph, tried to keep vacuum in the yellow, but ran at ~5 psi for some. Probably just over 1000 miles. Burned about 3 qts oil, but this could be from all the downhill high vacuum deceleration, no smoke whatsoever. Having a small issue with engine battery draining since I re-did all my grounds/cables. This was while plugged in and boost switch off.
