I talked to Joe yesterday about the bad boot. And that got me thinking that I've never seen an inter CV boot bad. Maybe I've just been lucky. Has that been the norm on inner boots for others? Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

Someone recently told me of a bad inner CV boot. I think that's the first
one I've heard of in my 19 GMC years. I did replace a couple of them the
first time I had to replace outers, out of ignorance. Hope I don't ever
have to do that again. Even when it's necessary to replace a shaft, I
encourage people to leave that boot in place. It's easy to R&R our long
axle into rebuild Toronado CV's without disturbing that boot.

I think that's pretty true Bob. Those inner joints don't go through much of an angle compared to the outers. I almost didn't make it home last year
from California when one of my outer joints started locking up on the freeway--it was pretty violent and scary. As it turned out I did have a split
boot and frankly didn't know how long it had been split--shame on me. So I would suggest that anyone with a split boot have a close look at that joint
since you may have no idea how long it ran that way.
