Following discussions with Jim Bounds (James Bond it Penrod-speek), I
ordered a Suburban SF-30 from

http://www.truckandrv.com/

and paid $380.00 plus shipping (about $20). I think that is a good
price, as the lowest I could find elsewhere was $445.00. The local RV
place could probably do it for $685.00 with a 2 week lead time! Time
for a new shop.

Jim said that Tom Warner and others had some difficulty installing the
NT-30SP due to the angle of the unit. The SF will fit in the space
under the sink with a cutout to the sofa area a possible requirement.
It is lower and wider but not as deep, possibly allowing for more
storage. Will obtain an "extended exhaust kit" per Jim's suggestion.

Jim is the best! Can't wait for him to get tired of the heat in Florida
and open a shop in Connecticut!

Man, it was hot today. I break a sweat around dawn and keep up the
pressure until I see double!
Had a great day today though, doing fun stuff.

The size of the unit (SF30) allows a much easier install. It is the same
unit we used to put under the freg in the twin bed interiors. The
extension kit allows ease of placement. The only advice I could give you
from this far away is take the beast out of the box and put it in the hole!

Yea, I know that may sound a bit primal but I have seen several different
very effictive installations. Please remember though that you may want to
provide a way to service the unit in place so do not close access to the
pilot, burnrt, etc.

A thermostat does not come with the unit so you may want to pick one up
while you are picking up the unit.

Keep notes and let us know how your journey ends up.

Thanks for the info. You have this habit of comming through for us GMCers. I
tend to over think things and usualy opening the box and putting it in is the
best way. I am really quite competent, just have no confidence at times.

Will the existing thermostat work on this unit? Also, is the extension kit you
are talking about strictly an extension of the vent and chimney?

I told my dad that the coach was going to Ken Frey this week. His first
question was "What about that guy you raved about in Florida?" We do plan on
heading South at Xmas time. I will start the list on the way to Colorado.

Tom Cook did the install on a suburban, though I cant remember which one,
and found out that you can buy a special part, which I think he got from
cinnibar which angles the vent to the correct position. Anyway, call him
or if he reads this he might add some of his experiences.

You are not going to believe this but I got my new issue of Motorhome
Marketplace and there is a step by step install of an SF30 in there. I did
not have a chance to check it out but it looked good on a quick scan.
