sigh....

Working on various projects for GMC (A 1977 Royale), one of which is to
replace original water temp sender with a NAPA TS-6469 sender.
Sender in hand, on my back under the GMC, I find things are not going to
fit. The Radiator has, at the sender location, a tube about 3/4" in diameter
and about 1 1/4" long. The tube looks to be a permanent attachment, i.e.
not screwed into the radiator. The sender screwed into the top of the tube
is much smaller than the napa sender.

OK, what gives. I don't think the radiator has been changed tho I have no
prior owner maintenance records.
The napa TS 6469 sender I have looks to have a 3/4" pipe thread and a
15/16 nut. It's 2 1/4" in total length.

BTW how does one work in this area - remove the batteries? I want to
replace the oil cooler hoses also. At least they don't seem to present a
problem other than access.

John,

I hope your computer clock is wrong, since it claims you are doing this at
2:47 this morning. I think your looking at the radiator water level
sensor. You'll probably find the temp sensor on the front of the intake
manifold(at least that's where it is on a 455).

The water temp sender is located on the intake manifold at the front of
the engine just to the left of the thermostat hose to radiator. The
device on the radiator is a low water switch. Don't touch it, if you
break it your probably won't find a replacement.
