I recently acquired this Birchaven that had been sitting for much of hte last five years. When i first tried to start it i cough wit ha bit of gas
down her throat but no NOTHING.

I have 12 to the black wire going to the HEI distributor.

Spark tester showns NOTHING.

Opened it up to look for critters- it is clean and pristine inside.

WHere do i go next? coil failure ?

First step is to change the module out and then the coil, Module first coil second.

Something else to consider with the same symptoms (not that a low
battery couldn't be the problem)

When we acquired our 73 Eleganza II it had intermittent ignition. It had
the MSD HEI ignition system and the 1/4" crimp connector on the
distributor photointerruptor wire was loose causing a 'no spark' until
you wiggled it a bit.

Another possibility if the problem re-occurs.
