Easy. Look at the distributer cap. The top of it will have the square coil
installed in the top, and the wires come out at right angles to the cap
instead of straight up.

Anyone know if 75 was the first year they used HEI
Ignition? I have HEI in my 74 Painted Desert. Might
be aftermarket? Or maybe they used them late in
74?

Mine must have been install by the original
owner.

Larry, my manual is in the coach and the coach is at Jim Bound's shop 3
1/2 hrs from here so I can't tell you the change over . But the two
distributors are quite different withthe HEI havig a larger cap and if
you open it there is an ignition module. These are kind of obcious but if
your distributor is about accessable as my manual that won't help.

Dave G. wearing shorts year round!

Boy oh boy, somebody must not be reading the mail! Here is what Rick
Staples said yesterday about the question of "WHEN":

Larry,
It's easy to tell the difference. Most obviously, conventional ignition
has a separate coil, with a traditional coil wire going to the center of
the distributor cap. HEI has a coil built into the cap. HEI has a huge
cap, with extra-fat plug wires retained by a plastic ring on top.

FWIW, THE CHANGE TO HEI WAS AT TZE **5 V100472 , JUST 65 COACHES AFTER
MINE. Not sure if I'm disappointed or just as happy! ;-)
