In the process of removing the old Sol-Aire furnace I pulled
out the forward air return duct -- the 3 1/2" duct that goes
up behind the kitchen sink cabinet and draws return air to
the furnace (this forward cold air return may be limited to
just a few models and not in all coaches??). The inlet end
of this duct is open with no grille. When I removed it out
fell about 12" of mouse nest. Just wonder what would have
happened if some/all that fine material had been sucked into
the hot air plenum???
I'm really glad I under took the furnace replacement project
otherwise I would not have found the fire hazard at the
exhaust port or the mouse nest, not to mention the security
of a modern, new furnace.
