Just caught a thread on rec.outdoors.rv-travel that probably saved me a
bunch of money. Mobil1 synthetic ATF does not conform to Chrysler Type
7176 for automatic transmissions in vehicles since mid-year 1988. I was
planning to change the fluid in my new(to me) 92 Cherokee. I confirmed
this at:

Where I found the quote:
"It is not a substitute for Chrysler Type 7176 ATF."
According to the usenet thread, using non-Type 7176 fluid in these newer
transmissions will result in transmission failure.
This does not mean there's anything wrong with Mobil1 ATF, it's just not
compatible with this Chrysler product. We've really built up the
reputation for Mobil1's products here lately and I wanted to make sure
that none of you made the same mistake I was about to. BTW, Redline
does make an ATF that conforms to Chrysler Type 7176. For the GMC,
Mobil1 should be fine as it conforms to Dexron III.
