Don/Emery,
You two mentioned something about Mobil 1 engine oil in the Tranny.
A mechanic that I have great faith in said it was the thing to do. Mine
works well.
Have I got a Tranny disaster in the works?

Bob,

Mobil1 does make a Dexron/Mercon compatible transmission fluid. I don't
think Mobil1 engine oil in the tranny would be a good idea.

A number of mechanics use engine oil in transmissions for breakin period. I
would however recommend changing to Mobil Synthetic ATF as soon as possible.
I would also say to you that you should consider a complete transmission
flush to rid the system of all engine oil. Don't just drop the pan.
By the way I am a Mobil lubricants distributor so my knowledge of this
subject is quite good. Mobil also makes synthetic grease and synthetic
80w90 gear oil for those of you looking for the best in oils. One of my
retail outlets also is a Cooper Tire outlet but no way no how will I get
into your tire air pressure fight. Just remember Cooper when you need new
tires as they make an excellant E rated all steel radial. And there are
dealers all over the country if you ever have a problem.

Don,
Look for Mobil 1 and Mobil Synthetic ATF at discount auto stores, or even
cheaper........kmart and walmart. they can retail it at costs cheaper than
a lubricants distributor can buy it. I know kmart stocks it and if you have
a murrays auto parts in your area they run it cheap too.

As far as synthetic greases, I use it in all my vehicles; trucks and cars
but Mobil has had some problems with their greases. Since the Exxon Mobil
merger they may be better since that is where everyone's base stocks came
from anyway.

Their synthetic gear lube is a 75W90 and really works well in harsh
conditions. Example. gear cases of 4X4's in cold or real hot conditions.
I would think that it would work well in a GMC as well.

If you have any Mobil 1 engine oil left put it into your lawn mower. It
really does the job in those little engines.
