As far as changing over to the Performer manifold, I am glad I did. It
was an easy exchange and sure looks a lot cleaner in the engine
compartment now. I also changed the Carb to a Holley Double pumper 750
cfm with electric choke. With only 1 vacuum line to the carb and only
one screw to adjust idle it sure is saving a lot of grief from the
quadrajet of the past. I don't have any comparable data between the two
carbs or manifolds because I changed them both at the same time. I am
getting 10.5 mpg, miles per US gallon. I am getting FI type starts,
starts practically with the turn of the key. No delays of the past as I
wait for the fuel to get moving. I really like the clean look on the
top of the engine without all the vacuum lines to hinder the view. I
also have removed the cruise control. More junk gone there also. I did
have to raise my floor but I am still happy with the results. Some guy I
know makes a real nice raised hatch cover and I got it for cost. No
problem on the 3000 mile trip I was on last October. Hills were a
breeze, no start problems, good fuel mileage and good looking. The
higher manifold also gives more vacuum because it is able to breathe
better. The crossovers, I plugged with the cast iron plugs which came
with the manifold. I don't plan to do much driving in the dead of
winter, at least this far north anyway.
The performer manifold will raise the height of your air cleaner
2.75 inches, so you will have to address this if you do it. I would also
recommend the Holley. My opinion only, for what it's worth. Darren

None. It was basically a bolt on application. I used the jetting which was
already in the carb. I bought a carb which was preset for an olds 455. I
believe the jets are 73's. I could be making that up but I think that it is
right. I can check if you wish. Darren

Darren,

How much trouble did you have getting the Holley properly jetted?

Don't remember the model. It would be similar if there is a stainless solid
crossover pipe from one side of the carb to the other on the lower left side.
If the inventor has money he is not related.:) Haven't heard of him before
now. Darren

It was a direct bolt on to the Performer manifold. No adapter plate required. I
would have to check on the model number and clarify my remembrances. I will check
tomorrow and let you know tomorrow evening. Darren

Thanks! Now if I could just remember the guy's name that does the
raised engine covers.

What model is your Holley? My coach came with a Holley, I am fairly certain
it is a 750 cfm. It has an electric choke. I really like the parts
availability. I needed a new retaining ring for the choke. The local speed
shop which stocks almost nothing, had two in stock. I doubt that the
Quadrajet would have been as available.

A side note: My brother is an engineer for the company that starts with the
same two letters as our coach company. There is an engineer that has
designed a machine that allows trailers filled with parts such as doors, to
back up to the loading ramp and become part of the assembly line. No
unloading or inventory problems. Works to further speed up JIT inventory.
Bar code on the trailer is all that they need to know what is in the truck
and in what order. The gizmo has been named after its inventor:

Paget's Gadget.
