I had promised someone that I would publish the procedure to check the
timing chain. I agree with Dave however normally the original equpment one
should be replaced at 90,000 miles or so.Replace it with a quality double
roller cloyes chain and gear set, about $78.95 from summit racing.
Take out all of the spark plugs and distributer cap. Turn the crankshaft in
one direction untill the rotor moves. Stop and mark a vertical line on the
harmonic balancer straight up. rotate the crankshaft in the other direction
slowly until the rotor just starts to move. If the rotation of the
crankshaft is over 10 degrees there is to much play in the timing chain
