I agree with you. I run Alcoas on original studs because if you look
at them close the outside of the nut is beveled or countersunk and
doesn't contain any threads anyway so you are really contacting all the
threads. I think the longer stud scare is just that, a scare to get you
to buy longer studs. If your studs get worn, by all means replace them
but I for one am not the least bit worried about the length. It is a
good idea to retorque them from time to time to be on the safe side. A
friend of mine has had trouble with the hole elongating on the wheels
and he has the longer studs.
