Has anyone bought a locking gas cap for their GMC recently?

I just tried the Stant #11571. This is the replacement for the #10571 that has
been mentioned on this list before as being the one for our coaches.

The configuration of the cap appears to be correct but it's about 1/4 inch too
long for the filler opening on my coach. The metal center (which fits down into
the filler opening) hangs up on the recessed lip of the filler pipe before the
cap can be inserted far enough to latch.

I purchased the Stant #10571 within the past year. I picked i up at
K-Mart for around $10 I've also seen it at Pep Boys as well as Parts
America for a few more $.
I know the 10571 is still available in this neck of the woods. Could it
be that your parts man wanted to sell you what he had on hand and took a
shot that the #11571 might also work for our application?
If you don't have any luck getting the 10571 in your area I would be
happy to pick one up and send it to you .The 10571 works fine on my
coach, let me know if I can help.

The correct Stant gas cap for our vehicles is -Stant-11571 in locking
and a G 807 in non locking. The G807 may also be listed as a 10807 or
11807. but don't worry about the difference in the first two digits as
they are only referencing the type of packaging the cap is in. For
example I believe the 11807 is a blister pack and the 10807 is a
cardboard pack.

These caps are vented and and do have a fairly long inner protrusion and
tang on the end of it (almost 1-1/4"). In your particular case it maybe
that in assembly of the gas pipe in your vehicle they let the inner pipe
at the fill area extend just a bit too high up into the neck, thus
causing interference with the cap.

I think your choices are-1. cut off the long tang- but then you should
be careful when gassing up after driving as you may get a surge of gas
coming up the pipe,so release the cap slowly, and carefully.

2.Try another brand of cap such as-Napa-Balkamp #7031049 .I have no
experience with this cap; it may not be locking.

3. If you wish to talk directly with Stant personnel and find a
substitute of similar relief pressure but different configuration you
can call them at-1-800-822-3121 extension 234 ( Sandy-Mae )

4. You are welcome to have my old cap- it is somewhere down in
California lying very safely on top of a gas pump--likely you could
trade it for return of some of that Californai sand that one of the guys
was trying to return the other day!!

Good luck,

Claude,

Thanks for the info. I'll give Stant a call.
