Ok thanks... With stock exhaust is there enough flex to just undo the 2 spring bolts and slip in a new one?

Got the bolts out and donut was in pretty good shape --not perfect but not shot. But found the pipe in my hand! Not clamped well or at all to
muffler. I have donut coming to NAPA and will pick up some clamps. 2 1/4 and a 2.5 in case pipe is distorted and small clamp won't fit. But pouring
rain now so can only do donut work from the hatch for now.

Put in new donut but still leaked, so as a last resort coated the gasket with exh sealant and assembled. This was Cadillac quite for 1 hour drive time
and now noisy. You would think those spring bolts would put plenty of pressure on rhe flange. Any other tricks I am missing to fix this while on the
road?

The bell on the ends of the pipes might be bent or distorted.
I have headers now but when I had donuts in the system I once had to reshape the end of the pipe. I also put a layer of Permatex Ultra Copper on before clamping them together and letting it cure for a couple of days. That sealed it.

Springs weaken with heat. Maybe some new springs would help. I always bang the pipe a few times after getting the new donuts up to operating
temperature WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING to settle things into place on those spring-loaded setups.

Could also be a chunk of the old donut or clump of rust remaining on one of
the two exhaust parts.

I've had to rotate the donut searching for the right "fit" to effect a seal.

I loosened the clamp at muff inlet and wrasssseled the pipe to try to get some rotation. The parallelism was poor manifold to pipe. I also wiggled
the pipe as the spring bolts tightened to try to home it. Four hours highways and stilll quiet. Knock on formica covered wood. Is anyone doing the
head pipes now ? Also curious on the original exact form factor of the mufflers as mine appear shorter cheaper replacements with an extra pipe to
make up shortfall. I can source them off an original.
