If you have the electro-level I (switches by the driver's window) I wrote a
troubleshooting guide that's on Gene Fisher' website. This instruction set
dealt with 'upward creep' but the concepts are similar. Go to:

http://www.california.com/~eagle/levelsch.htm

If you have the original round knob electro-level, I'm sure someone can help
you more than I can, but the technique for trouble shooting is the same.
Isolate the system one piece at a time.

Get an adapter and put a schrader valve right on the right side air bag,
pump it up with an air hose to a known pressure (say 85~95 pounds) and see
if it leaks down overnight. If it does, then your air bag is bad. You can
get schrader valve and air fitting parts from NAPA or any of the GMC supply
guys.

You can get new air bags from one of the GMC suppliers.

If it doesn't leak, then move the schrader valve to the end of the blue air
line (if you still have the original color code). You will have to buy/make
an adapter to do this. Same deal, put in a known air pressure and see if it
holds. If it doesn't hold, then you've got a leak in the line between the
control and the air bag. You'll have to track it down with soapy water or
'gas leak detector' from a home depot sort of supply house.

If it holds pressure through the blue air line, then you've got to
troubleshoot the rotary controls, and you've just reached the limit of my
knowledge on this type of system.

An alternative work around is to get a set of shut off valves from Jim
Bounds. Turn them off at night, back on the morning. It's an effective
solution to the problem if you want a fast, cheap fix. You've got to have
good, non-leaking air bags for this to work, so make that part of the test
first.

Hope this helps,

Mark

| I am having the same problem...the drivers side will be firm even after
| several days and the pass side will be soft. I have looked and used a
| lot of soapy water.
