EBL UPDATE: I plan on closing the deal on Dynamic EFI by the 24th of this month. I leave for PA on the 20th. I would love to be sending EBLs out the door in February, but I think it will take longer than that, but we shall see. Here is where you sign up for EBL auto notification, scroll down a little until you see where to put your email. I do not spam people who sign up either. Thank you.

It looks like there may be life in the EBL yet!

From the 3rd Gen board:

"I have been talking with Dynamic EFI representatives of the estate since Oct. I recently, last week spoke with them again several times and we are starting to get to the final stages with any luck. The estate has been tied up in probate court. You can watch more on my site about all this."

UPDATE EBL: I had a very productive business call with Dynamic EFI representative this morning. Lots of things to work out and of course it will take some time. I’m hoping to have another talk with them in a week or so on the progress of the project. Stay tuned to more information as it unfolds. Keep your fingers crossed!

Update as of May 6th, 2025 from the Xfireperformance blog...

"EBL UPDATE: I was contacted by Dynamic EFI representative yesterday concerning the EBL purchase. We are now down to scheduling a on-site visit to the company to see what all is involved with the company. I hope to go there this month if at all possible and go from there. Keep coming back for an update on this process. Hope everyone has a great week."

Update as of July 25, 2025 from the Xfireperformance blog...

EBL UPDATE: Some good news today on the EBL project. Source code software files have been found for the app What’s Up Display. Also, it appears that the EBL gerber files have also been found for the EBL pcb. Another good find today. Still looking for the sorce code for the firmware. Whatout the firmware, the rest is meaningless. The project continues.

worst case we might just have to use the existing binaries. we couldn't do any upgrades but is that necessary?
Also is there a bootloader?

The EBL is moving forward, but slower than I would like. A final offer has been sent by me out to them and we shall see if we can finally close the deal. If this deals fails, Plan B goes into full steam ahead and a new and improved EBL type ECM will take place. One way or another, I do not plan on leaving the CFI community stranded. I know you all have been patient and I appreciate that, but it take time to get these things done, and there it lots to handle with this. I’m not a big corporation with endless pockets. Thank you to all, we will get there.

Crazy. The ebl is pretty much worthless without brain power behind it. Sucks the estate would be fighting for big money.

Looking at his website though, it kinda puts the ebl out of play. Over $1000 for the ecu will make most go with a sniper efi no matter what the benefit of having ebl is.

Still hope he is able to revive the ebl.

If I was in the market for EFI at this moment, and with the EBL unavailable, I would look seriously at MegaSquirt. It's ECMs are available from multiple suppliers in either assembled or board & components kits

It has extensive documentation and support for just about anything you want. You can go as deep into electronic engine control as you like. The sensors are GM based and it can power Rochester or Holley throttle bodies, or multiport. You are not at the mercy of proprietary systems. Just reading the documentation will make you as knowledgeable on EFI as most mechanics.. or more so!

I'm hoping that $1200 price is just Corvette specific. I wouldn't be surprised if they're paying extra.

Megasquirt would definitely be interesting. Right now I'm just hoping my EBL board never dies. It was expensive enough the first time considering what's actually on the board.

It's been 18 years now (August 2007) and over 80,000 miles since I first installed my Howell EFI kit. Later, I upgraded to EBL with the help of Randy and George at the 2010 DuQuoin, Illinois GMCMI convention. It's been trouble free all this time. I wanted to get a spare EBL enabled ECM but waited too long. I still have the plain ECM I got from Howell that I kept in case of an emergency on the road. I think I will wait on a new EBL enabled ECM spare. I have plenty of other things I can spend $1200 on for my coach.

Correct me if I'm wrong but MS supports extra analog inputs, and glass dash options including the option to display warning lights when parameters go out of range (similar to DigiPanel)

So you get all the programmability of EBL, all the reliability of the stock GM components, lots of nice looking dash gauge options, great support and reasonable pricing, and modern software that is being continuously updated.

I'm leaning toward MegaSquirt.

Speeduino was something I've considered but the plug and play, turnkey reliability doesn't seem to be there like it is with MegaSquirt, from what I'm seeing online in forums.

I'm running a full version of Tuner Studio on a raspberry pi just as a home brew dashboard. Connection to Megasquirt is a usb cable. Hardest part was getting an autostart and graceful shutdown working with ignition On-Off. There are commercial Pi dashes now. These guys show some of their custom dash layouts. https://www.facebook.com/groups/tunerstudiodashboards and Phil Tobin has a dash implementation https://www.tunerstudio.com/index.php/products/ts-dash

This got my attention. I was panning to install a Dakota Digital dashboard set with a MegaSquirt interface module, but an RPi system with an ultra-wide display instead could be an option. Are there "standard" dashboard-replacement templates available? The Facebook group isn't available unless you join, and I haven't yet searched for the main page to "join". :)

Mine are pretty plain but there are these https://tunerstudiodashboards.com/ and https://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36862&start=220 and https://www.tunerstudio.com/index.php/support/manuals/53-using-tunerstudio-dashboard-designer I think it would be cool to have your GMC image as the startup splash screen

For what it's worth my Howell + EBL + Electronic Distributor fired up nearly instantly (well, after cranking for a few seconds) on my Palm Beach that had been sitting for about 4 years. I shut it down immediately, as I wasn't expecting it to start, and only wanted to circulate some oil. I really should have pulled the plugs and squirted in some oil, but I couldn't help myself...

I have an old laptop somewhere with TunerPro (?) but I may have to call Indiana Jones to find it.
