Keeping the cockput warm

Morning,

I drive the GMC year round. I have no problem with heat. I have a
problem with cold.

How do people keep the cockpit area warm during driving around in
sometimes freezing temperatures? This question especially relates to the 73.

I bet you do.

When Mary was still working (not that she is not now, she just does not go anyplace), we often traveled in the cold. The curtain behind the driver
helps a lot. Having a functional 195°F thermostat and a properly operating fan clutch all helped. With my 73-23 Glacier, it became well named when
the fan clutch failed. The fan was enough to keep everything too cold.

During one cold excursion, I actually tried the old diesel trick with cardboard on front of the radiator, it sort of worked, but not being a diesel,
it was too hard to balance.

You need to find every air leak in the front and seal it up. The first major one will be on both sides over the wheels where the floor meets the
fenders. On almost every coach that I have seen the fender have spread (chipmumk cheeks) and there is a major leakage there. Remove the fender
liners and look up the inside of the fender from the bottom. You will see the wood floor seam to the fender and the gap in it. Seal it fill length.
With the gap there ram air comes in at the floor and up the inside wall of the coach. When that is done start looking for cable entrance holes in
the front and also leaks around the heater assembly.

You have plenty of heat available from the engine coolant. So consider putting in a second heat exchanger. Under the passenger seat is a good
location.

Those are my initial ideas.

Ken is correct , GMC had a Svc Bulliuiin showing dealers to seal the area
on each side of the floor and firewall with very viscous sealent as outside
air does enter through that space
You'll need to Drop the inner fender to get to all of it
